ANA showcases “Flying Honu” exhibit models at Hawaiian Music & Life Festival
At the Hawaiian Music & Life Festival in early May, ANA invited guests to experience the business class seats that will be installed aboard their Airbus A380 aircraft. Guests were also treated to exhibit model representations of the “Flying Honu” special livery airplanes.
The custom 1/50 scale A380 exhibit models measure 4.7’ (1.5m) long and have a 5.2’ (1.6m) wingspan. It helps build excitement with travelers as part a comprehensive aviation marketing campaign. It also gives guests a chance to see the livery before it is rolled out on the actual aircraft.

The “Flying Honu” will operate along the airline’s Tokyo-Honolulu route which is expected to begin service in spring 2019. The green sea turtle is called “honu” in the Hawaiian language and is a symbol of good luck and prosperity.
There will be three different color variations, each representing a unique aspect of Hawaii. Blue represents the Hawaiian blue sky, green to show the crystal clear oceans, and orange to pay homage to the magnificent sunsets.
“Flying Honu” is based off a “Sea Turtle Family” concept designed by Chihiro Masuoka during a contest held by ANA last year. The contest invited fans to create a special livery for their Airbus A380. Masuoka’s winning concept was chosen from among 2,197 submissions received from around the world.
