PacMin Partners with the Muckenthaler Cultural Center to Offer 3D Modeling Classes
PacMin, a leader in visually dynamic models and displays, will partner with the Muckenthaler Cultural Center in Fullerton, California to lead classes on 3D modeling to underserved and at-risk female students. The classes will provide an introduction to 3D modeling, CAD, and 3D printing at no cost to the students. Students will also have the opportunity to create a 3D printed object of their own design at the end of the course. The classes are part of a larger STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) education and art therapy series sponsored by the Muckenthaler which began in November 2015. The classes provide a safe haven for at-risk students who have limited access to resources and career development assistance. At the conclusion of the STEAM series, each student will have an eight-part portfolio containing projects completed during each course.
Each class involves a hands-on fine art component and a digital art portion. This combination allows the girls to practice self-care while developing transferrable job skills. To prepare for the 3D modeling course, the girls practiced clay sculpting to develop their understanding of form and solid objects. Once each fine art skill is mastered, students are better prepared to see its real-world application.
“The STEAM fields encompass so many diverse subjects from aerospace to computer science to photography. These girls have a chance to really wet their feet. This program might spark their curiosity and it’s an interest that not only helps with career development but also gives them a sense of independence,” said Stephannie Bobadilla, Muckenthaler Chief Education Officer
The 3D modeling classes begin April 25, 2016 and at the end of the course, the girls will also tour PacMin and PacMin Studio to see 3D modeling and CAD design in action. The classes are free to the students and will be taught at participating Orange County locations, including Crittenton Services, Muzeo in Santa Ana, and the Haskett Public Library in Anaheim. Classes held at Muzeo and the Hasket Public Library are also open to the public.
