ANZ Smaug 2

The Hobbit’s Smaug revealed

Reading Time: 2 minutes

On December 2, Air New Zealand revealed their second Hobbit-inspired aircraft in Auckland. The livery was designed in conjunction with Weta Digital and features the eponymous Dragon Smaug.

Similar to last year’s themed 777-300ER unveiling, Air New Zealand invited PacMin to produce model aircraft for the event. Even on the 1/50 scale model, Smaug stretches over 3 feet long and covers the entire fuselage! See how PacMin created these models.

A 1/200 scale desktop model was later given away as part of the airline’s Facebook contest. In less than one week, the image received over 600 likes and was shared over 50 times!
