PacMin Works With Cal Poly Students Developing Satellite
Fall and Winter 2011, PacMin assisted a team of students from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with their eXMAC (experimental methods in attitude control) project. The task was to machine from a solid block of aluminum a structure that would contain the attitude control equipment with a minimum of mass.
After the PacMin prototype shop fabricated the cube structure, the students added their attitude control components necessary to perform test flights in zero gravity. Through NASA’s FAST (facilitated access to space technology) program, the students were able to test their cube in zero gravity conditions. This was accomplished on two flights aboard NASA’s zero gravity aircraft.
This was a great opportunity for PacMin to support the efforts of future aerospace engineers.
