Project Description
Pacmin Studios collaborated with the Muckenthaler Cultural Center and the Fullerton Arts Program to develop the Fullerton Arts Legacy Award. The project involved designing a dual recognition system: a large, permanent trophy housed at the Muckenthaler and a series of smaller, individual awards for each annual recipient.
The Challenge
The Muckenthaler needed a physical representation of their mission, embodied by the slogan “An Engine for the Arts.” The client approached us in August and asked us to have the permanent award and first individual award ready for an October ceremony. Beyond the slogan, The Muckenthaler had no designs in mind, meaning our team would need to design and create the entire award from scratch.
The Plan
Drawing inspiration from local history and our own team’s expertise, our Sales Engineer Noah utilized his background in locomotives to select the ALCO PA locomotive as the design foundation. To match the initial slogan, we wanted to emphasize forward motion and speed.
The Process
The production moved quickly from concept to reality using CAD and CNC machining to create the initial large-scale award and the first individual trophy. To solve the problem of future procurement, we developed a permanent mold for the smaller award. This allows us to cast new awards annually as needed. We also established a standardized layout for the individual nameplates, ensuring that imprinting remains consistent for both the permanent display at the Muckenthaler and the awards taken home by the recipients.
The Win
The Fullerton Arts Legacy Award is now a permanent centerpiece at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center, serving as a growing visual record of the city’s commitment to supporting the arts. By creating a sustainable manufacturing process, we removed the annual stress of award design and production for the client. The result is a “triumphant moment” every October, where local art leaders are honored with a symbol that is as resilient and forward-moving as the community itself.
